Why We Still Choose WordPress for Business Websites in 2026

WordPress for business websites is still, in 2026, the platform we recommend most often to clients at Rivett Multimedia, and the reasons haven’t changed as much as you might think.

Every year someone asks us if WordPress is “still a thing” given all the newer website builders out there. Webflow. Squarespace. Framer. Wix. The options have multiplied, and the marketing behind each of them is convincing. But after years of building websites for clients across different industries and different countries, our answer is mostly the same. WordPress, done properly, is still one of the most practical choices for a business website. Here’s why.

Why WordPress for Business Websites Still Makes Sense in 2026

WordPress powers a significant portion of the web, and not by accident. According to W3Techs, WordPress is used by more websites than any other content management system by a considerable margin. That level of adoption means something real: a massive ecosystem of developers, plugins, themes, and support resources that no newer platform can match.

For Rivett Multimedia & Events, the combination of WordPress with Elementor gives clients something important: control. We build the site, but our clients aren’t stuck coming back to us every time they want to update a paragraph or swap a photo. They can manage their own content without technical knowledge. That matters more than people expect, especially for small and medium businesses that need to move quickly without waiting on a developer every time something needs changing.

The Flexibility Argument

One of the strongest arguments for WordPress for business websites is flexibility. WordPress doesn’t lock you into one company’s ecosystem. If you ever want to move your website to a different host, switch developers, or add functionality that didn’t exist when you launched, WordPress makes that possible. Plenty of newer platforms make that significantly harder.

We’ve seen clients come to Rivett Multimedia from other platforms, frustrated by limitations they didn’t anticipate when they first signed up. The drag and drop builder that looked simple turned out to be impossible to customise beyond a certain point. The hosted platform had great templates but no way to add the specific functionality the business needed as it grew. WordPress, with its open source foundation and vast plugin library, almost never has that problem.

What We Use Alongside WordPress

At Rivett Multimedia, our typical WordPress setup includes Elementor for building and managing page layouts, a quality caching plugin for performance, Rank Math for SEO, and a security setup that covers the most common vulnerabilities. This combination gives clients a site that performs well, ranks well, and is genuinely manageable after handoff.

We’re also specific about hosting. WordPress is only as fast and reliable as the server it runs on. We recommend and work with hosts that are optimised for WordPress specifically, because the difference in performance between a generic shared host and a properly configured WordPress host is significant and immediately noticeable.

When WordPress Is Not the Right Answer

WordPress for business websites isn’t the answer for everything, and we’ll tell clients when it isn’t. If someone needs a highly custom web application with complex functionality, there are better tools for that job. If someone needs a simple one page site and has no interest in managing content themselves, there might be a lighter solution that gets them live faster.

But for the majority of business websites — brand sites, service businesses, portfolios, content driven sites, e-commerce — WordPress remains one of the most practical and future-proof choices available. It’s stable, it’s been tested by millions of websites, and the ecosystem means almost anything you need either already exists or can be built without starting from scratch.

The Honest Answer

The honest answer to “is WordPress still relevant” is that it never stopped being relevant. It just stopped being the only option, which is actually a good thing. More options means more informed choices. But for most of the web projects that come through Rivett Multimedia, it’s still where we start, and it’s usually where we finish too.

If you’re building or rebuilding a website and trying to figure out which platform makes sense for your business, get in touch with Rivett Multimedia & Events. We’re happy to talk through the options honestly and tell you which one actually fits what you need.
